When we go to the hospital, we often see some doctors wearing tie up surgical masks, while other doctors and nurses wear medical mask with earloop, especially the doctors and nurses who enter the operating room always wear tie up face mask. Why do doctors and nurses wear two different masks?
First, what is the Tie Up Face Mask?
Tie Up Face Mask is a medical device and PPE product, which is made of polypropylene non-woven fabric, melt-blown non-woven fabric, non-woven tie up and nose clip. Normal size is 17.5cm x 9.5cm 3ply, with green, blue, white, black or printing colors, etc. The entire mask is made of ultrasonic spot welding, which gives the mask good sealing properties.
Tie up surgical mask usually consist of five components and their purpose:
Outer layer material: The outer layer usually is polypropylene (polypropylene) non-woven fabric, which is a synthetic polymer. This layer is usually designed to be waterproof or liquid-proof to increase the protective properties of the mask.
Middle layer material (melt-blown layer): The melt-blown layer is a key part of non-woven masks and is used to provide efficient filtration. Melt-blown layers are also typically made of polypropylene, formed by spraying molten polypropylene into microscopic fibers. These microscopic fibers form a mesh structure that effectively filters airborne particles and the filter ratio is > 99.9%.
Inner layer material: The inner layer is also made of polypropylene non-woven fabric, which is designed to fit comfortably on the face and make the mask more comfortable.
Non woven tie up: Masks often come with 4 non woven tie up on the sides to ensure the mask fits snugly on the face. This tie up design is much better than face mask with earloop, to ensure the non woven face mask entirely fit on the face tightly to prevent the bacterial or virus to enter the body.
Nose clip: non-woven surgical masks are also equipped with a nose clip, which is usually an aluminum strip that can be adjusted in shape to fit the bridge of the nose and improve the sealing of the mask on the face.
The tie up surgical mask is designed to provide best filtration, appropriate breathability, and comfort.
Are Tie Up Masks Better Than Earloop Face Mask?
Earloop face mask and tie face mask are made of the same materials, except that the former uses elastic rubber to fix the face masks on the faces. Eealoop face masks are the fixed on the size and rubber size, for the different users use the same sizes face mask, it is not good fit on the all faces for the different faces. But the tie up mask is different, user can tie up tightly surgical mask on own face, to prevent the bacterial or virus enter into the mouth or nose. Therefore, tie up face masks have better advantages in terms of fit, adjustability and safety.
First - wash your hands: Make sure your hands are clean by washing them with soap and water before touching the mask.
Second - pick up the mask: Pick up the mask with clean hands from face mask package, making sure you are touching the edges and not the inside.
Third - identify the sides of the mask: Many tie up face masks have a darker or printed outer layer, which is the outside, while the lighter side is the inside.
Forth - wearing the mask: Place the face mask over your nose and mouth, making sure the surgical mask's metal nose clip fits properly on the bridge of your nose.
Fifth - pull the lower part: Pull the lower part of the mask, making sure it covers the entire chin.
Sixth - attaching the tie up: Place the upper tie of the mask on your head and the lower tie around your neck. Make sure the ties do not cross and are tightened appropriately to ensure a snug fit.
Seventh - adjust the nose clip: Gently press the nose clip with your fingertips to make it fit better on the bridge of the nose.
Eighth - check the seal: After wearing the mask, feel if air is seeping through the edges of the mask when you breathe. Make sure the mask fits snugly and there are no obvious air leaks.
Ninth - to take off your mask: When taking off your mask, untie the ties around your head and neck and avoid touching the front of the mask.
Tenth - discard: Single-use masks should be discarded properly.
When using a tie up surgical mask, the key is to make sure the mask fits well while avoiding touching the front of the mask to reduce the risk of contamination.
Why surgeons and medical professionals often prefer wearing tie up surgical masks in surgical settings. And these tie up face masks are all sterilized surgical masks. Because the surgeons wearing the tie up masks have some practical benefits:
l Tie up face masks can fit better on the face because the tightness of the mask can be adjusted using the straps, ensuring that there are no gaps during the procedure and reducing the penetration of outside air.
l The tie up surgical mask design allows doctors to adjust the tightness of the face mask according to individual face shape and size, thereby achieving a better sealing effect. This is critical in scenarios that require a highly sterile environment during surgery.
l Surgical procedures often take a long time and the surgeon may need to wear the mask for several hours. The tie-up design is easier to adjust and helps reduce discomfort for doctors.
l Tie up non woven face masks often better adapt to the shape of an individual's face, making the mask less restrictive to breathing. This is critical during long surgeries where doctors need to be highly alert in the operating room.
l Surgeons often need to wear multiple layers of gloves and other protective gear, and using a tie up surgical mask makes it easier to put on and adjust the mask without having to touch the face too much.
l Surgery requires an extremely sterile environment, so using a tie up mask can reduce the doctor's face contact when adjusting the mask, helping to maintain the cleanliness of the operating room.
l Medical staffs wear tie up masks to reduce cross-infection between medical staff and patients during surgery.
The most important thing is that during surgical procedures the doctors and medical professionals must wear the sterile tie up surgical masks.
